Chattanooga, Tennessee, is a city brimming with history, art, and a welcoming spirit. As a Black queer traveler, I was thrilled to discover its vibrant culture and the safe spaces that embrace diversity.

This guide is a curated list of experiences and recommendations, offering a glimpse into the heart of Chattanooga's LGBTQ+ scene and the businesses that champion inclusivity.

Chattanooga's culinary scene is a delicious blend of flavors, and I found some real gems:

Chattanooga's commitment to preserving history and celebrating Black culture is truly inspiring:

• Martin Luther King Boulevard: Explore this vibrant area filled with public art, including murals depicting Black life, history, and activism, and a mural of queer musician Bessie Smith.
• Ed Johnson Memorial: Paying respects at this sculpture by artist Jerome Meadows was a deeply moving experience.

  It honors a young Black man who was murdered by a white lynch mob.

• Walnut Street Bridge: Take a leisurely stroll across this iconic bridge, one of the longest pedestrian walkways in the world.

My visit to Chattanooga was a powerful reminder of the importance of community, resilience, and the ongoing fight for justice.

This new memorial honors the historic efforts of attorneys Noah Pardon and Styles Hutchins, and the Black community that supported them, it is a welcoming contemplative space where people of all backgrounds and cultures can come to learn, reflect, mourn, and find inspiration.
